Asian Telemarketers

Do you know what irks me more than telemarketers that call at insane hours (before 10am on the weekend) or ones that just won't let you go? Mandarin speaking telemarketers that don't get it when you say "I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're saying" (in Mandarin).

I mean, I'm trying to be nice here. So anyway, today a Mandarin lady called and I had to listen carefully in case she was someone I know. I picked up the word "company" so I knew right away she was a telemarketer. Plus, people that know my family knows that my Mandarin is horrible and would speak slow and use very simple words. Anyway, after I pulled the "I don't understand what you're saying" line, Miss Annoying Telemarketer decides to speak louder and quicker. Yeah, like that helps. I really didn't want to hang up on her because that's just rude so in English I said, "I'm sorry, do you know English?" She hangs up on me. How rude!

I think I'm going to be like mommy and say "Sorry, I don't speak any English" in perfect English. Rawr.

Have you signed up for the Do not Call List? These Mandarin telemarketers are ridiculous - they don't pay any heed to it. You ought to take down the name of the person calling, the name of the company and the time they called so you can report them. =) I get so many of them too ugh.

Haha, you be polite to her and she hangs up on you. Hmm... maybe next time, you should feign some nonsensical language from the start so that it gets the point across that you don't know what they're saying. =p
