Food Adventure #2

Sunday, July 26, 2009
Since I picked where to eat last, he decided to be adventurous too and picked a random restaurant. We ended up at Romana in North Burnaby.

Romana Pizza

It's supposed to be Italian/Greek however we didn't try any of their Greek dishes. We ended up having their ribs & spaghetti and pizza. The ribs were a huge disappointment. It was too dry. The pizza was decent. The toppings were as expected with oozing cheese. It was over baked though because the crust was hard and overly crispy.

It was busy though (for a Thursday night). Although the food was disappointing, the service was good except for the end. The lady (most likely the owner or the owner's wife) was really nice but when we asked her to pack up the pizza, she made it really awkward for us by insisting that we should get the ribs packed too. We really didn't want to take it home because well, there was one rib left and enough pasta to feed a baby. She brought the pizza to the back to pack up but she came back with a small container and packed the rib dish in front of us. =/ We felt obliged to take it home, but it ultimately ended up in the trash.

Food Adventure #1

Friday, July 24, 2009
So honestly, ever since I've stumbled upon Kevin's food blog, I've been following some foodie's adventures. This is a plus especially when the BF and I are starting to get bored with our meals. Everyone needs an adventure once in awhile!

blah blah blah. <-because I suck at transitions Last weekend the BF and I decided to hit up some random places in *gasp* Richmond! It was honestly, our first time in Richmond together. Okay, no, it was the second time. But I don't think the first time really counted because he only went there to rescue me from Netholics (x_x*).

Tanku Bakudanyaki

First destination... Tenku Bakudanyaki. We both ordered the original (pictured above). He wanted the pizza but they were sold out. (I think that's pretty bad planning on their part because the only difference is that they use tomato sauce and their menu only consists of six items and a special). It was interesting. They're like giant takoyaki balls stuffed with lots of goodies and made from mochi instead of flour. But the idea is pretty much the same. I do prefer bakudanyaki over takoyaki. However, I didn't like the mass amount of cabbage (ick). I was going to complain about the price (500cents), but then again, you pay just that much or even more for takoyaki (and that stuff is just flour stuffed with a small piece of squid).

Screamers at Danny's Market

Next we went to Danny's Market to try their Screamers. Screamers is a slurpee with soft-serve ice cream. I got the Cream Soda while he tried the Orange Crush. It's an interesting drink and I would go back again (if only it wasn't so far). Yummy.

Oh, and the pictures weren't taken with permission. BUT I didn't direct link them and clickie here and here respectively for where it originated from.

One of THOSE Things

Wednesday, July 22, 2009
I figured I haven't filled out one of these "get to know me" things for awhile. Plus, this one seems different from all the other ones that I've been exposed to so far.

I give you money and send you into the grocery store to pick up 5 items. You can only pick one thing from the following departments. What is it?
1. Produce: zucchini
2. Bakery: Too Bite Mini Chocolate Chip Banana Bread
3. Meat: lamb
4. Frozen: ice cream mochi
5. Other goods: prepared shredded squid

Let's say we're heading out for a weekend getaway. Not too cold, not too hot location. You're allowed to bring 6 articles of clothing with you, shoes are a given. So, what's in your bag?
1. hoodie
2. jeans
3. scarf
4. dress
5. racerback tank
6. undies (why are shoes a given but not undergarments?)

If I was to listen in on one of your conversations throughout the day, what 5 phrases or words would I be most likely to hear?
1. I have no idea what I just said, but I think you understood me...
2. =)
3. I'm a GOOD girl
4. Harry!
5. rawr

Sweet, you just scored a whole afternoon to yourself. We're talking a 3 hour block with nobody around. What 5 activities might we find you doing?
1. blog reading
2. tv shows: Lie to Me, House, HIMYM
3. online shopping
4. baking cookies (English Bay cookie dough <3)
5. blasting my music... no I aint got a gun, no I never really been in a club. still live with my parents but I'm still a thug!

We're going to the zoo. But, it looks like it could start storming, so it'll have to be a quick visit. What 3 exhibits do we have to get to?
1. I
2. hate
3. zoos

You're hungry for ice cream. I'll give you a triple dipper ice cream cone. What 3 flavors can I pile on for ya?
1. sesame (prob not that great with the other two though)
2. strawberry cheesecake
3. mint cookies and cream

Somebody stole your purse/wallet…in order to get it back, you have to name 5 things you know are inside to claim it. So, what's in there?
1. leather owl keychain
2. heart shaped locket
3. Upass
4. Visa
5. Driver's License
...funny thing is, when I change from wallet to wallet, these are the ONLY items that's consistent o_O

If you could go back and talk to the old you, when you were in elementary school, and inform yourself of 4 things, what would you say?
1. you're right, Mandarin School is stupid; but start learning how to read Chinese menus
2. keep doing what you're doing. you'll turn out fine w/o conforming
3. no worries, you'll still love Hello Kitty ten years later
4. maybe cut down on candy and chips

LC: Fassil

Monday, July 20, 2009
So for May's LC dinner, we decided to be adventurous. The suggestions brought up were Caribbean, Indian, Ethiopian, and Afghan. Since we are a very democratic group, a poll was set up and Ethiopian won. The location of choice was Fassil.

I must say, I had doubts about my willingness to try new things. I mean, I'm usually up for anything and (I like to think that) I have an open mind, but Ethiopian food is so new to me that I had... what's that word? Meh. Anyway, I had fun. It was different and I enjoyed the meal. The staff was really friendly. (Although I don't know if it's because the owner's son knows a couple people in out group.) Mind you, our group was huge. Our group this time had 14 people and we took up half the restaurant. They did accommodate us well though.

So the food itself, I can't say what exactly it was. I wish I took a picture of it though. I am in no way claiming to be a food critic or even a food blogger. I'm just recalling my experience.

I'm a diii-no-saurrr =)

So lately I've been obsessed with dinosaurs. Okay, not really, but it's a long story. Anyway, the SMA Fundraiser Car Wash was today, and Ellick and myself went for a McDonald's run. I wasn't really hungry so I went for a Happy Meal. One of the reasons I was leaning towards that was because I wanted a dinosaur toy!

ice age dawn of the dinosaurs

Yups, Ice Age! Initially I got Sid, but then on my way home, I dropped by another McD and asked if I could trade for Rudy. (But honestly, I think Momma Dino is so much more awesomer.) I was so happy when the lady said I could. That made my day. (I think my maturity level just went down 6 notches.)

Hi, I'm five! *holds up four fingers*

First Sephora Now...

Thursday, July 2, 2009

I'm uber excited. They're finally starting to open a bunch of stores in Canada. In Fall 2009, they're opening one in my city. *dances* Okay, it's not at the prime shopping locations (downtown or the currently high schoolers infested mall ) but it'll be easily accessible once the new skytrain line opens up.
